the great thinning

The great thinning is quiet rather than catastrophic.
Thinning is gradual, almost unnoticed, until absence becomes undeniable.
Through highly physical, yet sensitive movement, Sophie explores what it is to be a human on our diminishing planet and how this journey towards the inevitable affects the very fabric of who we are.

Choreographer/Performer: Sophie Hollingworth
Collaborator/Dramaturg: Tayla Hoadley

The great thinning has been supported by Alchemy Dance Collective J.A.C.D Program, Restless Dance Theatre inResidence Program, Australian Dance Theatre LOFT with CreateSA , and Brookside Cellars Community Arts Centre/Campbelltown City Council.

"The Great Thinning made and performed by Sophie Hollingworth was a solo triumph in minimalism aided by collaborator and dramaturg Tayla Hoadley."

“Hollingworth is a performer with great spell, drawing the audience into their world.”

review by Lisa Lanzi

“The dancers are bold, emotional and unapologetically themselves. You’ll walk out trying to piece it all together, a sure sign that you’ve experienced something meaningful and deeply felt.”
